Morissette began her music career in Canada in the early 1990s, releasing two dance-pop albums. She achieved global success with her alternative rock album, Jagged Little Pill (1995), which sold over 33 million copies and won Morissette four Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. It produced the singles "You Oughta Know", "You Learn", "Hand in My Pocket", "Ironic", and "Head over Feet". Jagged Little Pill propelled her to become a cultural phenomenon and has been included on several all-time lists. Morissette won two more Grammy Awards for her single "Uninvited". Her following experimental album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998), was highly anticipated and experienced similar success to its predecessor. It produced the singles "Thank U", "Joining You", "Unsent", and "So Pure". Her next album, Under Rug Swept (2002), marked the first time she was the sole producer of an entire record. It produced the single "Hands Clean". She has taken further creative control and production duties on her subsequent albums, which include So-Called Chaos (2004), Flavors of Entanglement (2008), Havoc and Bright Lights (2012), Such Pretty Forks in the Road (2020), and The Storm Before the Calm (2022). Morissette has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Her first three internationally released albums topped the Billboard 200, while her next four albums peaked within the top 20. Eight of her singles have achieved global chart success, and she holds the record for the most songs topping the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart among female artists. She has received numerous accolades, including a Brit Award, seven Grammy Awards, and fourteen Juno Awards. Rolling Stone described her as the "queen of alt-rock angst", VH1 ranked her the 53rd-greatest woman in rock and roll, and Billboard called her one of the greatest pop stars.
