R.E.M. at Foellinger Auditorium in Urbana, IL, USA
R.E.M. Reconstruction
NOTE: Michael Stipe lectured the audience on the history of the ginkgo tree, an example of which was growing outside the auditorium on the quad. He concluded by saying the leaves “smelled like ... smegma.” He then scattered a large lawn bag full of ginkgo leaves around the stage in what he called “an interpretive dance to autumn.” The band played "Rawhide" while Stipe laid flat on his back in the middle of the stage. Letter Never Sent was introduced by stating that there's more than one Athens. The guitar only version of So. Central Rain was played at this show, while a gumby doll was on Mike's amp and a Budweiser tall boy was resting on Pete's.
